Swimming with Mermaids

For some people searching for the perfect pair of jeans fill them with dread. For me it’s swimwear.  And to the surprise of utterly no-one (except for you magical body-confident unicorns out there, teach me your secrets) I’m not alone. Hell, even the idea of trying on swimwear makes me feel sick. I have had the same plaid two piece for near enough 7 years. While some would say this would be testament to Scottish weather (partially) and my on again off again love affair with swimming (also a little bit true) it really comes down to how much I hate swimwear shopping. Now swimwear is basically like publicly acceptable lingerie, so it should be my main jam, but when you’re feeling less than body confident, well it kind of sucks the fun out of it.  So with my confidence at an all time low, it was time to retire the old two piece (seriously guys 7 YEARS) and experiment with some vintage inspired swimwear.

It’s so easy to want to retreat in to our safety nets. Black, boxy shapes – anything that I can use to hide.  A skintight turquoise halter could not be further from my comfort zone. With the absence of an under wire I can’t say I was feeling overly confident. However with the promise of inbuilt support and some lightly padded cups, well Boden’s swimwear was kitted out to keep my modesty (and more importantly my tits) in tact.

I don’t think any piece of clothing has the power to make all your body confidence issues go away, but a good one can make you forget about them for a while. I wasn’t constantly tugging at my swimsuit and everything remained exactly where it was supposed to be.  And the scallop design? Perfect for visiting the home of the OG mermaids on the Sorrento Coast.  And sometimes that’s all you need. Some old school glamour and some colour to make you feel holiday ready.
