I’m a girl who is all about investing in good basics, so it should come as no surprise this applies to my make up bag too. From your cult classics to your beauty super stars, we’ve all got our handbag heroes. The beauty products that are the foundation (often literally) of our make up routine. Beauty bag basics are such a difficult thing to nail, but when done right you end up adding them to your shopping bag time and time again. My day to day make up has a few stand out products that are never out my handbag and are the benchmark for my best beauty buys.
L’oreal Infalible 24hr Matte Foundation
I’ve always spent a lot of money on my base products. For some people they love mascara, some blushers. For me it is all about the foundation. I never thought that a drug store foundation would become part of my my best beauty buys but after a quick impulse shop in Superdrug, this became a fast favourite. Easy, smooth application, great skin tone and a nice matte finish. It can cake if building it up too much but I find that a light layer works and if you’ve got a good primer on underneath, well, top ups will be minimum.
Smashbox Primer Oil
Smashbox hands down make the best primers on the market. There. I said it. The oil based one is a new outing for them but I really love it. Application is easy, absorbs to the skin super quick and I find my make up sits beautifully across this. One to try if you find more traditional primers chalky to work with.
Yves Saint Laurent – Touche Eclat
It’s okay guys. I know I’m late to the party. This beauty needs to introduction, but I’m going to do it anyway. I am the biggest convert after picking up Touch Eclat. There’s a reason this sits a top many beauty editors desert island beauty list. This has become my alternative to going full on hard with concealer on the go. Under my eyes, redness in my cheeks, blemishes, I use this for everything. And it’s basically my new favourite beauty product ever.
Urban Decay Afterglow 8 Hour Powder Highlighter in Fireball
This has fast become my defacto blush. As someone that tends to work towards the cooler end of the spectrum this has added a welcome warmth to my face. I love the subtle peach tones and the formula is great. Application is a peach with the product applying evenly with a little going a long way. I’m also a MAJOR fan of the box which has a little grate built in to dust off excess powder. A welcome change from a mirror!
The Balm– Meet Matte Hughes in Committed
I am yet to meet anyone who doesn’t look amazing in Committed by The Balm. I’ve seen this on no less that 5 girls with different skin tones and different make up tones and every single time I’ve asked “What the hell are you wearing on your lips because I need it” and in fact already had it. One of the better matte lipsticks on the market, The Balm’s Matte Hughes range comes in 12 beautiful shades. If this isn’t in your make up bag already, amend immediately.
