When I asked my friend and instagram girl crush Hailea to paint my wedding jacket she very generously said FUCK YES. With cash dollar in hand and a crazy pipe dream of vintage valentine’s kitties, flowers and confetti – we basically ended up with the best hand-painted leather jacket a girl could ask for. I left Hailed with a pretty open brief (cats and confetti) and she worked her Dirty Disco magic on creating what has fast become one of my favourite things in my wardrobe. I had my cat jacket for 2 months before I could actually wear it. The waiting? Near enough killed me. Now? Try and get it off me. I’m already fantasising about adding a pair of her painted jeans to my collection.

For day to day wear though it’s back to that old adage of comfort is key. If I’m going big with the hair and jacket (because let’s face it, they are definitely both STATEMENT pieces) everything else tends to be more firmly in the neutral camp. A beautiful light great romper from GAP has become one of my key go dos when I want no brainer dressing. For the four seasons a day we’re having in Scotland? A classic boat neck cut over-sized striped jumper from New Look. It’s not reinventing the wheel, just finding really classic key pieces that work and last.
And anyway, let’s face it. It really is all about the jacket.
