Prepare to meet your new designer crush. Clio Peppiatt’s “Motel Clio” filled instagram feeds this weekend in a flurry of faux fur, embroidery and yes, those bunny slippers. The young designer takes her trademark kitsch designs, bringing us back down to Earth from her sci-f collection last season to an exploration of identity and sexuality at the “Motel Clio.” Teaming up with Streezie’s and Tatty Devine, Peppiatt has cherry picked cult favourites for collaboration, resulting in a pulpy day dream more than a little bit reminiscent of Wes Anderson.
Peppiatt’s transitioned from candy colours to jewel tones for the latest season. She seamlessly mixes textures of silk, leather and patchwork fur, pairing embroidered bombers with matchstick print party dresses. Slogan sweaters are contrasted by sequined bralets while acrylic suitcases and novelty bunny slippers take centre stage.
Peppiatt’s designing for a new age of glamour, with individuality and quirk as their modus operanti. Pyjama suits and silks are still luxury but this time on her terms. Clio Peppiatt may have only been on the scene since 2014 but with Lena Dunham and Charlie XCX among her fans, she only continues to go from strength to strength as one of he most exciting young talents in the UK.
