If you’re self consious about your skin, like me, it can be tempting to just want to find the thickest foundation possible and just pack it on your face. However, thanks to a good deal of trial and error, coupled with a need for something more decidedly low matinence, I began exploring BB creams. It’s still something I am not entirely sold on, in truth, why not call a spade a spade and just call it a light foundation? Well I suppose because a spade and a hoe are two different things. They are both gardening tools but they serve different things. It’s the same with foundation and BB cream. As part woman, part snake, my skin needs something less harsh now and then, yet I still need coverage. Basically Smashbox BB Water was the answer to my prayers.
Okay hear me out. The formula is super watery, which doesn’t bode well for great coverage in my experience, and it’s got an SPF which I try to avoid in my foundations, but some how, by some weird beauty witchcraft it works. This lovely thin formula provides a light coverage to even out the skin, give it a tall drink of water and protect it from all the nasty rays. I was unsure about how light it was but was pleasently suprised by the coverage I got from the product. It was easy enough to build up and blended really well. While I found it tricky to use a brush for application I found a sponge works perfectly. While it does have only 8 shades, I also find due to the formula you have a bit of leway when working towards getting an exact shade match. As someone who’s foundation is akin to stage make up on a day to day basis, this is a refreshing break, both allowing my skin to breath while protecting it. It’s basically the opisote of everything I have in my kit and I’ve fallen completely in love with it. At £29 it’s the price point I usually spend on my foundations, so having something that I can wear on a day to day basis is pefect. I never thought I would be team BB cream but hot damn, consider me sold.
