I’d been aware of Jocelyn Copeland. as a designer for a while – mostly through her heavily grunge influenced denim and leather work. Her designs were always heavily inspired by subcultures with a real DIY rock ethic throughout. Recently she launched her new label CuriouScope on asos marketplace and I couldn’t be more stoked.
Influenced by her time living in Williamsburg, New York – Copeland has brought together a collection that fuses together graffiti, punks and a whole load of leather. Jocelyn – a graduate from Glasgow School of Art – is a talented young woman, with her skill set predominately in embroidery. This technical experience combined with a love of punk and rock has brought together a very focused and tight collection. It plays a lot with textures including fishnets, faux fur,velvet and leathers and everything feels instantly wearable. Copeland felt it was important that her designs were accessible. When creating her collection she noted she wanted something that she was designing for the girl who wanted something a little bit different that you couldn’t get on the high street but without having to play bank blistering prices.
My favourite pieces include the Peter Pan Collar Dress (£80), the Black Velvet Dress (£60) and the Gold Sequined Jumper (£80.) I’m not usually a fan of a peter pan collar but the heavily embroidered detail on the arms really cinches it for me. The black velvet dress is an utter dream and would be perfect with a full underskirt under it – something for the Christmas parties? The gold sequined jumper should speak for itself.
The colour palette throughout is gold, blacks and reds so naturally I’m in my element here, and there isn’t really anything in the store I can’t imagine not wearing. The collection is super affordable with prices ranging between £25 – £80.
