Capes and Clutches: Season of the Witch

There are few outfits that can't be improved upon with the addition of a well placed cape. In fact, I'm surprised it took me so long to actually add one to my wardrobe. It's the shape of the fashion wank jacket (remember when we all just draped them over our shoulders and pretended we were warm?) without the fear of it falling off with an unfortunate gust of wind.  The caped dress from Nobody's Child scratches a lot of fashion itches for me, namely the need to feel like some kind of superhero witch.

Business Woman Special

Power dressing means different things for different people. I've never been a shirt and slacks kind of girl (if anything it makes me feel like I should be making coffee and asking where the photocopier is) - but I still reach for the same tried and tested methods whenever I have an important meeting. Which for me means all black and a ton of red lipstick. I've tried pops of colour, a sensible nude lipstick and more mascara but time and time again I find myself changing at the last minute and applying Lady Danger. We all have our own uniforms, our personal suits of armour. I guess mine is by the book "fashion wank."

Serendipitous Sushi Styling

Turns out the holiday blues are a thing. And while I'd rather still be in Tokyo eating takoyaki and viewing cherry blossoms, coming home to a care package from The White Pepper definitely softened the blow. Their Spring SS16 collection is all about a girl going to Japan and basically falling in love with the food, the culture and the fashion, so basically my life. All very serendipitous. Defined by oversized exaggerated silhouettes, snack inspired patches and Meadhamesque ruffles, "Big in Japan" is a love letter to Japan's kawaii culture.

Antidepressants: Or how I learned to stop worrying and love the pills

It felt like a defeat. A failure by my very own design. At this point though it was less an act of self-care and more one of self-preservation. There really is only so long you can go staring at the walls, willing yourself to disappear before you need to do something. Anything. Except this didn't feel like a choice. I was burning bridges, igniting my own scorched Earth policy, and while I wasn't entirely sure I wanted anything to change (I didn't really want or feel much of anything) something had to give. I was going to go on anti-depressants.

Bride x Tested: Oh My Honey! Step in to Spring Glitter Bride!

UK designer Louise O'Mahony's Oh My Honey has fast become the first stop for any cool girl bride when dress shopping.  Her embroidered pink polka dot Louella is nothing short of iconic, and she returns this Spring with a flurry of frothy confections for the alternative bride. It's enough to make a gal want to do the whole wedding thing all over again!

Public Service Announcement: Pick up Rock n Roll Bride

After the bear and I got married back in November, I never imagined we'd be featured in one of my favourite magazines. Rock n Roll Bride 7 comes out today featuring our wonderful wedding (which, spoilers was filled with cats, cake and confetti.) We're off honeymooning but if you do pick up a copy I'd love if you could share your snaps. It's really an honour to be able to share our day with you all. More wedding goodies await over the coming weeks including how to find the perfect glitter eyeliner and new bridal designs from some indie darlings. Until then we hope you enjoy seeing a small part of our day and for the truly curious find a video under the jump.

Cross Check

Clashing checks may not seem like the most obvious of sartorial steps, but if there's one thing I know and love it's a good clash.  All my favourite combos are things that shouldn't work together; pink and red, socks and sandals, clashing patterns, and yeah, different types of checks can be added to that list now too.  The real trick to it though? Keeping it classic.
