The New Classic

Let's start off with this old cliche shall we? I'm Claire and I'm a shopaholic. I physically cannot resist a bargain. I'm a sucker for the "New In" tab. I'm a sucker for "organise by price." And as a result? I never have anything to wear. No. Really. I have a bad case of wardrobe fatigue because quite frankly, I can't actually SEE what I've got. This leads to a kind of bi-annual purge with varying degrees of brutality and the most recent one saw three suitcases (it's getting that ridiculous) of things that I just.don't.wear. I should know better, but kicking the fast fashion habit was proving harder than I first thought. So I've decided to put myself on a fashion diet. No more big old bulk shopping sprees where I blow my load on bits and bobs that will be at the bottom of my wardrobe in 3 months. I'm changing the way I shop and letting myself buy one truly great piece a month. Proper lifer items that can be integrated in to my wardrobe easily, aren't trend led and fit in with my style.  Sounds simple enough right? Ask me again in 6 months.

Jacket - Custom Dirty Disco Vintage
Dress - Joseph at Cruise Premium
Bag - Boden
Shoes - ASOS

While I'm not exactly short on jeans or party dresses, a classic "work-event" friendly number was missing from my wardrobe. I tend to favour draping, classic cuts with contemporary detailing and lots and lots of monochrome. Was it any wonder that I ended up in love with this Joseph dress? With a hidden shoulder zip detail and an exaggerated split it's the perfect no brainer when ever the LBD won't do.  It's more than I'd usually spend on a dress (YUP) but it's already cemented itself as my go to occasion dress. When in doubt, price per wear has become my personal mantra.

Whether I'll be able to stick to my new fashion diet remains to be seen but I'm looking forward to embracing a bit of quality over quantity and falling in love with clothes all over again.

  1. Best of luck with your "fashion diet"! I find myself constantly getting rid of things, so am in a similar boat - how to not buy items that will just end up in the swap/donate pile within a few months?

In any case, you look great! This outfit is killer!

  2. MATE THAT DRESS I AM ACTUALLY SWOONING.

I have every faith you can do this. I mean, your wedding jacket is all the evidence you need, right??

I have a wee formula I use so that everything in my wardrobe gets rotated. I'm not sure whether I should blog about it or whether it just makes me a nerd.
