Pastel Mermaid Aspirations

The vibe we're going for is pastel mermaid. At least that's what I tell myself after a happy accident with the hair dye (decidedly not violet you may have noted) and a frantic throwing on of all the clothes before hurtling out the door. In truth though I really just wanted an excuse to wear my Meadham Kirchoff's that I picked up in London. These bad boys have been BEGGING for me to take them for a spin and like the terrible shoe mother that I am, I've let them gather dust on my proverbial shoe shelf (it's really more of a shoe mountain, but we've covered the terrible shoe mother point already.)

Jacket - Debenhams
Shoes - Meadham Kirchoff for Topshop

After a week in bed and missing some amazing events (still not over missing ASOS or William Chambers launch) it's good to be back in the swing of things and what better way than with Debenhams SS14 launch?  Every season they just keep upping their game. I have my eyes on a gorgeous pair of ombre shorts by Jonathan Saunders and of course THIS BAG.   Weather is a total roll of the dice at the moment, sliding the scale between slightly warmer than your fridge to a brief daliance with TAPS AFF temperatures. Which of course means more sunglasses, lunch outside and packing away the 80Ds for the season. I never thought I'd be so excited for Summer!

On taking over a shop window on Buchanan Street and other sensible life choices

"Want to take part in a style challenge?" The premise sounds simple enough. 5 bloggers over 5 nights, each with 3 manequins to style up and one hour to pull the looks together. It pretty much sounds like my bread and butter and I'm signing on the figurative dotted line before I know it. I promptly ignore the voice in my head that reminds me I've never done anything like this before. Ever. Hell, I have enough trouble getting myself dressed in the morning and my entire retail experience can be summarised as a brief Summer in a comic book shop. But then again, how often do you get to take over a window on one of the busiest shopping streets in Scotland?

To celebrate Glasgow stores new late opening hours (7pm every week night, most open till 8pm Thursday), Buchanan Galleries have invited 5 bloggers to create their Spring looks every night this week. Add a countdown complete with ominous ticking clock and you've got the Late Night Style challenge. And guess who's up first?

Tonight I'll be doing my level best to pull together 3 womenwear looks. In an hour. I've got some bloody amazing stores to choose from. I can't quite tell if this is a good thing or bad thing quite yet. I've managed to blackmail, bribe and beg a few friends to be on hand with safety pins, soothing words and second opinions (#teambeewaits) to help me get through it. An hour isn't a particularly long time to do anything but knowing I'm working to a time limit is part of the fun!

If you find yourself at a loose end this evening, fancy a laugh or want to chance your arm at winning £50 of shopping vouchers for Buchanan Galleries pop on down tonight between 5-6 while I frantically (and by frantically I mean zen like demenour) pull together my favourite 3 Spring looks. Pass by, give us a cheer and make sure to tweet your selfie next to the "Have you got Glasgow Style" tagging @peoplemakeGla #latenightstyle for your chance to win £50 worth of shopping vouchers.

I'm up against some proper talented babes and can't wait to see what they come up with. Till then I'm just focusing on the task at hand and narrowing it down to 3 outfits. The time has come for me to visual merchandise for my life. Wish me luck, see you on the other side!

5 Reasons to hit up Bold Souls: Off the Catwalk Summer Preview

Like any of you guys would need any more reasons to hit up the latest Bold Souls: Off the Catwalk event right?  Bold Souls is a god damn staple of Glasgow's fashion scene with a constant rotation of pop up markets, introducing new designers in a super fun shoppable fashion event. I'm just about ready to fish my Summer goodies from the back of the wardrobe and this guy is the perfect way to get me in the mood for Spring. So let's do it. 5 Reasons you need to hit up Bold Souls: Off the Catwalk.

1.From Catwalk to Closet
I love a fashion show as much as the next gal but who wants to wait a whole season to get your grubby little mits on the new designs? It's one big massive fashion tease. See something on the catwalk you like. You can buy it. That night. Straight up from the designer. SERVE ME UP SOME OF THAT.

2. Buy straight from the designer
There's something intensely satisfying about cutting out the middle man and buying straight from the designer. There's nothing that really helps you get a feel for a brand than meeting the people behind it.

Being asked to pick a favourite Scottish designer is like being asked to pick your favourite child. It's Sophie's choice. My favourite NEW label however is Naromode. I managed to twist a few arms to acquire one of their scarves around Christmas time but I'm already itching for my next piece from the talented Glasgow based design duo. I hear there is a bee print t-shirt that practically has my name on it.

4. The other designers are pretty great too....
Local favourite Chouchou returns with a new range of hoods, Danni McWilliams who I just adore, Vanilla Ink Alumni Scarlett Erskine, Scottish Fashion Award winner Joanne McGillivray, Ebba Gorring - the roll call for the fashion show and pop up market reads as a whos who of some favourite up and coming fashion talent.

5. £10 a ticket but the markets free
If you're wanting to get all up in the fashion show (dranks, mini burgers and goody bag so why wouldn't you) you can still shop until you drop.  Time for that debit card to take a hammering!

Bold Souls returns the 13th March to Hummingbird Bath Street with doors at 5.30 and fashion sho at 7.30.  With a limited run of 100 tickets for the fashion show it's a case of buy now or sob forever. And by sob forever I mean fill that sadness pit with clothes. From Scottish designers. DONE.  Hopefully see you there!

London Fashion Week Street Style: Get The Look

London Fashion Week may feel like a distant memory what with our Miu Miu's, Moschino's and THAT Chanel show but I'm still feeling it's impact now. And no, not the shows (though they were fantastic) and no, not the fashion week flu (which I've all but recovered from.) I'm talking about the street style. This is the story of how Bee Waits got her groove back.

Pre-LFW I was in a style rut. I was hiding out in skinny jeans, chunky jumpers and pretty much all the lipstick my face could manage. I have ALL the clothes yet I had no idea how the hell I was supposed to wear them. In short, I was a fashion husk. I'm sure I'm not the only one who's felt there style mojo has been all used up (I know, I know...the idea that anything like that could be "used up" is ridiculous) and it was really getting me down. Then London happened. I was excited about getting dressed again. I was excited to see what other people wore. In the end it was London that shook me out of my "buy sensible, blacks, greys and traditional cuts" brain space and right back in to "if you truly love it, buy it." I was back in fashion fuck-it territory and it was GLORIOUS.

So in an ode to some of my fave fashionistas (and fashionistos) here's a quick round up of some of my favourite looks from LFW and how to get the look.

london fashion week street style
Zara Clutch:  I may or may not have bought this bag after seeing it at LFW. I'm not even sorry.

Veiled Hat: Widely available on etsy etc though I feel I may need to make myself acquintance with the glue gun.

Ombre all the things: I love this ombre skirt and shirt combo, and for recreating this beauty I'd fully recommend embracing some DIY.

Round glasses. These bad boys are Oliver Peoples. You just can't mess with a classic.

Blue eyeliner: I'm all about coloured eyeliner and Urban Decay are a safe bet if looking to play around with some colours.

Pink and red together is one of my all time favourite colour combos and by the looks of it, pink is still the hot colour for the season? Who knew? (Everybody. The answer is everybody.)

holographic bag
Holographic accents: This is the trend I hope never goes away. It wasn't over. It still isn't over. It'll possibly never be over.

I don't know about you but London left me pretty pumped. My bank card.....less so. Any fave trend s you've been creeping at?
